Scholarships
The Mestre Jelon Vieira Scholarship Fund was established in 2025 to help remove some financial barriers to participating in Arte Reviver Capoeira New Orleans and the Capoeira & Brazilian Cultural Arts Center (CBCAC) programming.
Named in honor of Mestre Jelon Vieira, a pioneer who helped introduce capoeira to the United States in the 1970s and dedicated his life to sharing Afro-Brazilian culture, the fund reflects our commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and community.
Scholarships are available to students and families with demonstrated financial need and may be used to support participation in classes, cultural exchange events, workshops, and other programming offered through Arte Reviver Capoeira New Orleans and the Capoeira & Brazilian Cultural Arts Center (CBCAC). Applications are accepted on a rolling basis as funding allows.
Since its creation, the fund has helped nearly 30 students participate in programming they may otherwise not have been able to access. By reducing financial barriers, the scholarship fund allows children, teens, and adults to experience the physical, emotional, and social benefits of capoeira while building confidence, connection, and community.
We believe capoeira should be accessible to everyone, and the Mestre Jelon Vieira Scholarship Fund helps make that vision a reality.
