The Capoeira & Brazilian Cultural Arts Center Awarded Grant
The Capoeira & Brazilian Cultural Arts Center (CBCAC) announced that it has been awarded a grant from the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF) to fund two new scholarship programs and a new initiative called Distinctive Warriors, a class for youth with different abilities. This grant from the GNOF Recreation and Culture Fund, supported by New Orleans City Council, will enable CBCAC to expand access to cultural education, break down financial barriers for participation, and provide innovative, inclusive programming for underserved populations, significantly benefiting families and youth in New Orleans.
Key Highlights of the Grant:
Funding Amount: $8,750
Project Focus:
Establish scholarship funds to cover fees for lower-income families for cultural exchange events.
Create a scholarship program to cover fees for Arte Reviver Capoeira New Orleans youth classes for lower-income families.
Grow awareness of a new initiative called Distinctive Warriors, a specialized class for youth with different abilities.
Impact:
This grant will allow CBCAC to support 10 families in need to start, create inclusive opportunities for youth with diverse abilities, and strengthen awareness of Capoeira as a tool for cultural and personal growth.
“We are deeply grateful for this grant from the City Council and the Greater New Orleans Foundation. We would especially like to thank Council members JP Morrell and Eugene Green. This funding will allow us to increase awareness of our new Distinctive Warriors program and also help families who may not be able to fully pay monthly tuition fees, which I know will make a real difference in our community. It is so important for us to provide a safe space for everyone to learn and practice Capoeira. We hope this is only the beginning of these wonderful initiatives,” stated Porsche Jackson, DBA, leader of Arte Reviver Capoeira New Orleans and CBCAC Executive Director.
