NOLA Capoeira Announces 10-Year Anniversary Event, Community Welcome!

NOLA Capoeira and the Capoeira and Brazilian Cultural Arts Center (CBCAC) announce the celebration of their 10-year anniversary and Fall Batizado and Troca de Cordas from Thursday, September 26 to Saturday, September 28, 2024. This exciting 3-day event will take place at the NOLA Capoeira academy on North Broad Street.

This event will highlight capoeira workshops with Mestre Cocada (Rogerio da Silva), visiting capoeira master from Goioerê, Paraná, Brazil. Mestre Cocada will also be helping honor students during three separate batizado and troca de corda ceremonies. A “batizado” is a ceremony for students who earned their first belt in the art of capoeira; a “troca de corda” is when students who have already earned their first belt get promoted to the next level, similar to other martial arts belt ceremonies. The first ceremony, for kids 5–8 years old, will be on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. The second ceremony, for kids 9–12 years old and teenagers, will be on Friday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m. The third ceremony will be for adults on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m.

NOLA Capoeira and the CBCAC invite the community to come to the NOLA Capoeira academy at 1016 N. Broad St. to watch the ceremonies and participate in this milestone celebration in person. The community will be able to learn more about the Afro-Brazilian martial art form while supporting participants. We will also be hosting a raffle on Saturday, September 28, with all proceeds benefiting the CBCAC. Doors open 30 minutes before all event activities and are free to the public to watch.
